| There is no biblical basis for anyone to take a concrete position on a homosexual demonic spirit. I am willing to say that I could be wrong about a homosexual demonic spirit, however it is not in scripture. I'm not saying that there is no such thing, I just don’t give it much credence, in that it is not mentioned in scripture and there is no evidence to the fact, only opinion.
Gender development or relational and physical abuse attributing to homosexual causation is not directly referenced in scripture, however there is strong case history over all the research data over a great many years over a very large agreeing group of varying organizations. This evidence is not in conflict to scripture. If we help people with their relationship with the Lord, help them with their understandings of how they came to believe that they do, through examining relational and physical abuse and how that has adversely affected their beliefs of God, themselves, and others, and how to turn their lives over to Christ for healing, we have helped the client.
For us to say that homosexuality is a demonic spirit is to shift the blame from the individual’s life experiences and from the individual to the devil. I personally believe that this is done because of a lack of understanding. Scripturally, people believe it would be unbiblical to say someone is born homosexual, and there is no scientific evidence to support that there is a genetic link. Many also understand that it does not make sense to say that someone would choose to have homosexual temptation. Without further study into past history of individuals lives, for many it is a logical jump to blame it on a demonic element. If all we do is tell the individual that they need to be delivered and pray for deliverance, we are telling them what so many have already. Most all of our clients have prayed for this over an extended period of time. Are we going to say that they just haven’t believed or had faith, or that they are not saved? No. Most are not completely delivered from their attractions. To say concretely that this is wrong is not biblical, it is opinion. Are we going to say that Christians don’t struggle with temptation or that Christians don’t sin? This certainly would not be biblical. While we do formulate opinions in Truth Ministry, we do not formulate opinions that conflict with God’s Word or have not evidence of fact. We are constantly learning at Truth about people, personalities, life experiences and how they cause us to think, feel, and thus behave. We are constantly learning how to best care for people. We listen to people, pray with them, and advise them. We use curriculum that is biblically based that utilizes past history of helping homosexuals and those like them. We cannot and will not look at things simplistically, saying that it is merely a demonic spirit and they need to be delivered. They very well may need to be, and there very well may be such a thing, however we are going to help men and women to understand and be free from their past holistically. We do not take the position that psychology is of the devil, as many do. Scripture speaks of the mind as separate from the body, spirit, and even separate from the heart. It is an organism that processes experiences, many that are good and many that are bad. Helping an individual piece this all together will help renew their mind and help them keep from continuing in old patterns of behavior and belief. |
