SPARTANBURG, SC (October 02, 2009) - When we were called into ministry, it wasn’t to create a name, or a reputation, or even to leave a legacy. It was to proclaim the truth of freedom from homosexuality. This is our daily mission as we work from our offices in Spartanburg, but we know this issue reaches far beyond the borders of our city or state. That’s one reason we are so excited to be ministry partners with Oscar Galindo and his ministry in Latin America.
When Oscar became the executive director of this ministry, only three of 20 Latin American countries had an Exodus ministry. Now, seven years later, nine countries have at least one ministry, and three other countries have ministries in development. Currently, there are a total of 13 member ministries in Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Peru and Venezuela.
As he began in ministry, there were few, if any, resources available in his language. He has since translated several books into Spanish, and because of the need, other resources are being printed in Spanish also. Oscar has even translated my testimony and included it on his website. He is also interested in helping us create a version of the Hope for Wholeness video curriculum specifically for Latin America.
Oscar’s passion comes from his own experience of walking out of homosexuality. He says, “I testify that change is possible and there is a much better option than the gay life presented by the media and the gay community. My story is possible only with the transforming power of God and the help of His people, people like you. I want every homosexual across Latin America to hear there is hope for a different life, a different identity than homosexuality, and that change is possible.”
We first came to know of Oscar when Ron Elmore, director of a North Carolina Exodus ministry, brought him to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Conferences. Ministries in our region caught Oscar’s vision and decided to help support him financially. Since then, he has been able to work full-time in the ministry.
